The Bulgarian actress Maria Valcheva Bakalova (born 4 June 1996) has been appearing on Bulgarian television since 1997. Most notably, she played Tutar Sagdiyev in the mockumentary Borat Subsequent Moviefilm in 2020. In addition to receiving nominations for her performance at the Academy Awards, the BAFTA Film Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, she won the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress.

After attending the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia, Bakalova began her career in Bulgarian cinema by starring in film productions. In addition to Transgression (2017) and The Father (2019), she has also starred in Last Call (2020) and Women Do Cry (2021). In 2022, she starred in Judd Apatow’s The Bubble, A24’s horror film Bodies Bodies Bodies, and The Honeymoon, a romantic comedy.
